REFLECTIONS OF SOCIETY

Reflections of Society

From Aristotle to Dante, from Ponticus to the Catholic Church, there are many different historical origins and representations of the Seven Sins. Over many millennia, these philosophies have evolved into the seven sins we know now; lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. Representations and interpretations of these ideas have permeated all forms of media like academia, film, painting, and manga to name a few. Through this exhibit, our aim is to showcase the diaspora of art and culture, coming together to represent the melting pot of our fragmented society, through representations of the seven sins. Using various media BlackCube created an all-encompassing visual and sensory experience to unearth an ongoing narrative that is usually hidden below the surface.

Debut Curatorial Showcase

On the 11th of October 2018, Black Cube made history by inaugurating one of Delhi's first-ever immersive art experiences. Attended by over 750 guests, the show was an immense success at introducing the city to a new kind of art showcase. Artists in attendance included Krishen Khanna, Himmat Shah, Jagannath Panda, GR Iranna, Ranbir Kaleka, Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi and Dhananjay Singh to name a few.

One of Delhi's first Immersive art Exhibits

The exhibition consisted of several standalone rooms, where viewers were able to personally interact with the artworks. The rooms themselves represented the way artists interpret immoral, shiftless, and self-gratifying behaviors prevalent in modern society. Accompanied by installations, virtual reality, musical performances, food, and drinks, BlackCube presented a truly holistic art experience.
