Manu Parekh is one of India's most distinctive modernists, known for his expressive brushwork, intuitive colour, and a decades-long engagement with the city of Varanasi. A recipient of the Padma Shri and the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi and has held a practice spanning painting, theatre, and craft over six decades.
"The Blue Surge of Banaras" is among Parekh's most immersive treatments of the city — the Ganga rendered as a dominant, surging field of blue that pushes through and past the ghats, the temples, the figures at the water's edge.
